Cancer impacts the lives of everyone it touches. Astria Sunnyside Hospital Cancer Center healthcare providers and staff are committed to offering compassionate care and support to their patients and their families during all stages of treatment. Starting this week, the Astria Health Foundation and the Astria Sunnyside Hospital Cancer Center are partnering to build a new healing garden for cancer patients and their loved ones in Sunnyside.
“Cancer treatment is a process that can take significant time for patients and their families in our clinic. Right now, the view from our treatment rooms is of busy streets and parking lots,” said Elizabeth Martinez, RN, Oncology Department Director. “Our vision is to create a place of healing and peace for patients to rest before, during, and after their treatments. The garden will be filled with seasonal plants and flowers that promote health and wellbeing, as well as a fountain, benches, and a winding path through the garden.”
The cancer center and foundation are working with local vendors, employees and volunteers to build the healing garden and are seeking community and business support to raise money for the project. The fundraising campaign goal is to raise $40,000, which will cover the landscaping costs, supplies, and labor. Astria Health Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, so all healing garden donations are tax-deductible and will go directly to the cancer center. Donors will also have an opportunity to memorialize a loved one in the garden through plaques and engravings on walkway pavers, benches., and a fountain.
