The RISE Award is a recognition program for Astria Health team members who have gone above and beyond to demonstrate our Values—Respect, Integrity, Stewardship, and Excellence. The RISE Award is designed to express gratitude to non-management team members who work in Astria Health’s facilities and to enable patients, families, and co-workers to thank and honor them.

Example Story:
When my mother was admitted to Astria Sunnyside Hospital, our family expected the doctors and nurses to provide excellent care. What surprised us was how much of a difference one member of the housekeeping team made during her stay.
Every morning, David knocked before entering the room, introduced himself with a smile, and asked my mother how she was feeling before beginning his work. He never acted as though cleaning the room was just another task. Instead, he treated my mother with genuine kindness and respect, taking a few moments to visit with her while making sure her room was clean, organized, and comfortable.
One morning, my mother commented that she was embarrassed because she had accidentally spilled her breakfast. David immediately reassured her that accidents happen and that she didn't need to apologize. He quickly cleaned everything up while making her laugh, turning what could have been an embarrassing moment into one filled with kindness and dignity.
Throughout her stay, David noticed the little things. He would straighten the chairs so visitors had a comfortable place to sit, make sure the trash was emptied before it became full, and wipe down surfaces so the room always felt fresh and welcoming. He even noticed when my mother was cold and, although it wasn't his responsibility, offered to let her nurse know she could use another blanket.
His work may have happened behind the scenes, but it had a tremendous impact on our experience. Walking into a clean, peaceful room each day gave our family confidence that every detail of my mother's care mattered. His compassion reminded us that healing isn't just about medicine—it is also about feeling safe, respected, and cared for.
David demonstrated Respect by treating every patient with dignity and kindness. He showed Integrity by taking pride in his work even when no one was watching. He exemplified Stewardship by creating a clean, safe environment that supports healing and protects patients. Above all, he demonstrated Excellence through his professionalism, positive attitude, and willingness to go beyond what was expected every single day.
Housekeeping staff are an essential part of the healthcare team, and David showed us that every interaction can make a difference. Our family is deeply grateful for the care and compassion he provided, and we believe he is truly deserving of the Astria Health RISE Award.
