Astria Toppenish Hospital’s Inpatient Behavioral Health Program is grounded in a Comprehensive Patient-Centered Model of Care that extends beyond crisis stabilization to actively support patient recovery, healing, and long-term wellness. Safety is the primary focus of care, guiding all clinical interactions and treatment decisions. Within a structured and therapeutic environment, patients are supported, respected, and empowered to engage in treatment while practicing healthy, positive coping strategies that promote resilience, self-regulation, and choice.
The program utilizes a trauma-informed approach to treatment, ensuring that all staff understand how past trauma may influence current behaviors, emotional responses, and engagement in care. Patients are approached with empathy, respect, and nonjudgmental communication, with an emphasis on minimizing re-traumatization and supporting autonomy. Through consistent structure and supportive interactions, patients are given opportunities to practice healthy, positive coping strategies that foster emotional regulation and resilience. Providing consistent opportunities to practice coping strategies supports increased insight, confidence, and readiness for community reintegration.
Care delivery is recovery-oriented and skill-based, focusing on symptom management while also addressing underlying needs, personal strengths, and individualized goals. Patients are supported in developing insight, strengthening motivation for change, and practicing practical tools they can apply both during hospitalization and following discharge.
This model of care is interdisciplinary, with responsibility for treatment and patient safety shared among all members of the care team, including psychiatry, nursing, therapy, case management, and support staff. Collaboration, consistent communication, and shared accountability ensure care is coordinated, holistic, and aligned with each patient’s individualized recovery plan. Through this integrated approach, Astria Toppenish Hospital fosters a culture of safety, respect, and healing that supports meaningful recovery and long-term behavioral health outcomes.
