Astria Health is proud to share that Astria Sunnyside Hospital has received the Washington State Hospital Association’s (WSHA) 2025 Critical Access Hospital Achievement of Excellence distinction, in recognition of outstanding quality improvement efforts and commitment to delivering exceptional patient care in a rural setting.
The award was presented at WSHA’s annual Rural Hospital Leadership Conference in Chelan, Washington, where just 20 rural hospitals across the state were recognized for their voluntary participation and achievement in quality metrics. Astria Sunnyside Hospital was one of only 14 to earn a Gold distinction, the highest level awarded.
To receive this honor, hospitals submitted performance data across up to 14 quality measures—including sepsis care, diagnostic accuracy, workplace safety, and strategies to reduce health disparities. Each hospital had to achieve an average score of at least five out of 10 to qualify for recognition.
“We are proud of our teams at Astria Sunnyside Hospital for their unwavering commitment to improving patient outcomes and ensuring access to trusted, exceptional care close to home,” said Brian Gibbons, President and CEO of Astria Health. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our clinicians and staff, whose relentless effort continues to drive innovation and quality in rural health care.”
This marks the third year WSHA has recognized Critical Access Hospitals, which are defined as rural hospitals with 25 or fewer beds that offer 24/7 emergency care and serve patients who typically stay 96 hours or less. These facilities play a vital role in supporting Washington’s rural communities.
Astria Health congratulates all hospitals recognized for their leadership in rural health care quality and thanks WSHA for shining a light on the critical contributions of rural providers across the state.
