Astria Health welcomes new Board-Certified Endocrinologist to Sunnyside and Union Gap

Astria Health is pleased to welcome Board-Certified Endocrinologist Sikarin Upala, MD, MS, CCD, to its Astria Health Centers in Sunnyside and Union Gap.  

            “Endocrinology is a specialized medicine that focuses on treating diseases and problems that affect the endocrine system, such as diabetes, obesity, hormone imbalances and thyroid disorders,” said Dr. Upala. “I’m looking forward to working one-on-one with my patients in the Yakima Valley to help them identify their specific health issues and create an individualized treatment plan to get their health under control so they can start feeling better again.”

            Dr. Upala joins Astria Health after working for Crossroads Physician Corp in Illinois for the past four years and offers several years of endocrinology and internal medicine experience. Dr. Upala and his team provide services to prevent, diagnose and treat common health problems and chronic and complex illnesses. His services include but are not limited to diabetes assessment and management, thyroid disorders, obesity and weight management, osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases.

            Dr. Upala completed his fellowship in endocrinology at The University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, and his internal medicine residency at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York.  He received his Master of Science degree in Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand.

Dr. Upala is committed to medical research and is an author of several medical publications on weight management and nutrition topics. He is a Diplomate on the American Board of Clinical Lipidology and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He is a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (CCD). He is board certified on the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and has received an Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism certification. He is also a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the International Society for Clinical Densitometry, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and the National Lipid Association.
