This industry-standard collaborative process prioritizes safety, equity and dignity in childbirth by improving communication and teamwork, ensuring that every person giving birth has a voice in their care. TEAMBIRTH is a program developed by Ariadna Labs which is a joint center for health systems innovations at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Astria Sunnyside Hospital is proud to be affiliated with this program.
We have four spacious delivery suites, each containing a jetted tub and everything needed for labor and postpartum care for you and your new baby. We look forward to caring for you and your new baby during your stay with us. We will also provide you with the information you need to make informed decisions about your health as a new mother and for your newborn.
As an expectant mother, we will do all we can to provide you with individualized care that meets both your needs and your preferences. Our goal is to provide you with the birth experience that you are hoping for. Your physician and nurse will keep you informed as to the options available during labor, delivery and postpartum. Anesthesia staff is available to help with any pain management needs.
Astria Sunnyside Hospital also has a Cesarean Section Suite located right in the Family Birth Center. The C-Section Suite has state-of-the-art technology and is designed so that baby and mother can remain in the same room for the duration of the procedure.
Our nurses are specially trained in labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn care and the current full-time staff are certified breastfeeding educators. Both family practice physicians and an OB-GYN are on staff to deliver at Astria Sunnyside Hospital. We also have a pediatrician available to care for your new baby on an ongoing basis, if you so desire.
Astria Sunnyside Hospital has attained a Gold Safe Sleep Champion designation by the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program. As a part of that certification, all of our nurses have been trained on infant safe sleep practices and are here to help you make sure your baby is sleeping safely.

Astria Sunnyside Hospital’s Family Birth Center is being reimagined to better reflect the heart of our community and the needs of the families we serve. Every birth marks the beginning of a new story, and our goal is to ensure that experience is not only safe and high-quality, but also comfortable, welcoming, and centered on women and families.
Through the Astria Health Foundation, we are raising funds to support patient-centered care items that enhance comfort during labor and delivery. These include rocking chairs, wireless fetal monitors that allow freedom of movement, improved in-room amenities, additional seating for partners and loved ones, and sleeper chairs so families can remain close throughout the birth experience. These items directly support dignity, mobility, rest, and emotional well-being during labor.
The reimagined space will also feature artwork by local artist Consuelo Soto-Murphy, whose work reflects the strength, culture, and resilience of the Sunnyside community, helping the Family Birth Center feel warm, personal, and like home.
As a nonprofit rural health system, Astria Health faces significant financial challenges, with more than 80% of patients relying on Medicaid or Medicare. Limited reimbursement means operating budgets must prioritize essential clinical care and safety. The Astria Health Foundation exists to bridge this gap—ensuring that women and families in our community receive not only excellent medical care, but a birth experience rooted in comfort, dignity, and respect.
