Astria Health has three Emergency Departments located throughout the Yakima Valley; at Astria Regional Medical Center in Yakima, Astria Sunnyside Hospital in Sunnyside and Astria Toppenish Hospital in Toppenish. Physicians, registered nurses and specialists staff Astria Health Emergency Departments 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Each Astria Health hospital's Emergency Department sees thousands of patients every year. Patients who come into the Emergency Department for care are promptly screened by a registered nurse to determine the level of care that is needed. The most seriously ill or injured will be triaged and move ahead of others if other patients have non-life-threatening conditions.
Importantly, Astria Regional Medical Center, Astria Sunnyside Hospital and Astria Toppenish Hospital are also part of the Astria Heart Institute and provide cutting-edge cardiac care diagnostics and technology and world-class cardiologists at Astria Health Hospitals. Astria Heart Institute at Astria Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in the Yakima Valley with the board certified cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons who perform coronary bypass surgery, aotic valve repair and replacement, mitral valve repair and replacement, aortic aneurysm surgery, lung cancery surgery and thoracic surgery.

Astria Regional Medical Center is a Level III Trauma Center, a Mission Lifeline Hospital (the only one in the State), Platinum Chest Pain Accreditation with PCI and a Level II Stroke Accreditation.
The emergency department (ED) at Astria Regional Medical Center consists of 21 beds in the main ED, that includes two trauma rooms and a safe observation room for patients experiencing behavioral health issues. Our providers are trained in Emergency Medicine and treat more than 35,000 patients a year. Care is available to all patients regardless of race, ethnic origin, religion or financial status.

Most Astria Regional Medical Center emergency room patients are evaluated by a medical professional within 10 minutes of checkin.
Occasionally there are unavoidable delays which may cause longer waits for our patients after the triage process.
Your care might be delayed for:
- The most seriously ill or injured are seen first
- When an ambulance arrives and the patients’ medical needs are more critical that those of the patients’ needs in the waiting area, they are seen first
- After examination by the ED physician, a specialist may need to be called in from outside the hospital
- After being examined the patient may need to wait for procedures such as x-rays and blood tests to be completed
Astria Regional Medical Center is a Platinum level accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the American College of Cardiology. This distinction means that it is able to provide a higher level of cardiac care to patients with chest pain. Astria Regional Medical Center & Astria Heart Institute have the tools and experience to quickly and efficiently diagnose and treat all patients arriving in the ER with cardiac symptoms.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE)
Astria Regional Medical Center's ER has Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) available to help victims of sexual assault. SANE nurses receive special training that can help them deal with the emotional and physical needs of a patient who has been sexually assaulted.
Astria Sunnyside Hospital Emergency Department (509) 837.1500
Astria Sunnyside Hospital is a Level I Cardiac Trauma facility. There are two rooms set aside to treat patients suspected of cardiac problems. The Emergency Department and Cath Lab staff at Astria Sunnyside Hospital have also been trained specifically for patients experiencing a heart attack or stroke. Patients in need of surgery can be transported to the Cath Lab within minutes of arriving at the ER.

Please bring your insurance information with you when you come to any of the Astria Health hospital Emergency Departments. While no one is ever denied care, we want to do everything we can to quickly assure you that your insurance coverage is in place.
The providers in our Astria Sunnyside Hospital and Astria Toppenish Hospital Emergency Departments are contract employees of a company called Envision. You should know that you will receive a separate bill from Envision as part of every ER visit.
